I already have Solar PV can I add batteries?
If you have Solar fitted already you may want to add batteries.
If you are receiving FIT payments then you need to notify you energy supplier if you change your inverter to a model different to the original.
On mainland UK and with G99 approval the original inverter is left in place and an additional AC tied battery inverter is fitted alongside so as not to alter the generation meter readings that FIT payments are made.
Unfortunately SSEN (DNO) view these as additional generation and a G99 application must be made prior to fitting. Due to constraints on the grid in Orkney they are not allowing this system to be fitted. Certain types of AC batteries like a Tesla Powerwall may be acceptable.
If you do not get FIT payments then the inverter will require changing to a Hybrid type that will accept batteries so yes certain types of batteries can be added.
